Danske Bank sold a Skr5bn (Eu546m, Dkr4.08bn) April 2018 floating rate covered bond backed by Swedish and Norwegian residential and commercial mortgages yesterday (Wednesday), which was the Danish bank’s first covered bond issue in Swedish kronor in more than two years.

Jyske Bank priced a well-received Eu500m (Dkr3.73bn) three year senior unsecured FRN in a rare visit to the euro benchmark market yesterday (Wednesday), with the deal also its first public euro issue since the Danish bank’s merger with BRFkredit in April.

Nykredit sold some Dkr13bn (Eu1.74bn) of one year ARM bonds this week in the first auctions of covered bonds that feature maturity extension triggers in accordance with new legislation, and market participants said the auctions, although small, show demand to be largely unaffected by the changes.

Nykredit Realkredit launched the first Tier 2 CoCo out of Denmark on Friday, a Eu600m (Dkr4.48bn) 22 year non-call seven transaction that was five times oversubscribed.

Danske Bank completed its first euro benchmark flow funding exercise of the year yesterday (Wednesday), a Eu750m three year senior unsecured floating rate note felt to be best suited to a softer market, while SEB was today out with the fourth Nordic Tier 2 issue of the year.

The EC is steering toward keeping covered bonds as Level 2 assets for LCR purposes but allowing them to make up a larger share, according to sources, and an EC spokesperson said “talks are progressing well” about a solution addressing Danish concerns.

The Nordic first quarter reporting season is well underway, with Danske today (Thursday) the latest to announce results. Mats Anderson, equity research analyst at Kepler Cheuvreux, says that results have been marginally better than expected, boding well for the rest of the year.

A Danish bill on conditional mortgage bond maturity extensions will help reduce liquidity risk, but does not on its own reduce refinancing risk in the country’s mortgage system, said Fitch, urging the industry to continue its efforts to tackle this risk by other means.

A bill providing for the conditional maturity extension on certain Danish covered bonds removes refinancing risk for covered bond issuers and will have a “marked” credit positive impact on Nordea Kredit covered bonds, said Moody’s on Monday.

Realkredit Danmark met with strong demand for its first syndicated sale of a Swedish krona covered bond on Tuesday, a Skr6.2bn (Eu703m, Dkr5.25bn) dual tranche issue that lent more duration to Sweden-targeted Danish issuance, with October 2016 and October 2017 tranches offered.
