Nordea Eiendomskreditt attracted £425m of orders for a £400m (€545m) three year floating rate covered bond on Wednesday, which, alongside similar issues for Lloyds beforehand and Bank of Nova Scotia afterwards, bankers said shows sterling to be an attractive option for issuers.

Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB) sold an inaugural sterling covered bond yesterday (Thursday), a £250m (Eu353m, Skr3.29bn) three year FRN, and the issuer’s head of treasury management said that it would now look to return to the UK market each year.

Swedbank Hypotek reopened the sterling covered bond market after two months without benchmark supply on Wednesday, and although the FRN was priced 10bp wider than preceding deals an official at the issuer said the sterling market still offered attractive funding.

Stadshypotek sold a £300m three year FRN covered bond on Monday, proving that the sterling market is an appealing option for issuers and printing at a tighter price than could have been achieved in the domestic market, according to bankers.

Sparebanken Vest Boligkreditt on Wednesday sold the first Norwegian euro benchmark covered bond of the year, a Eu500m seven year that achieved tighter pricing than some market participants had expected, and an official at the Norwegian issuer said it may become a more frequent visitor to euros.

Danske Bank sold its first sterling covered bond on Monday, a £500m (Dkr4.64bn, Eu624m) three year floating rate note that attracted £800m of demand despite coming at the same time as a £1.5bn Barclays Bank covered bond in the same format.

Nordea Eiendomskreditt made its sterling covered bond debut today (Thursday) with a £500m (Eu627m, Nkr5.11bn) three year FRN that was nearly twice subscribed and said to be the tightest deal in the currency so far, also coming inside theoretical euro new issue levels.

Svenska Handelsbanken made its third visit to the sterling market this year with a £400m (Eu477m, Skr4.27bn) seven year senior unsecured deal on Thursday of last week (14 November).
