Sweden’s Skandiabanken plans to issue its first covered bond at the end of the month after having turned to the asset class as part of its plans to use the capital markets to diversify its funding sources and support the banks’ growth ambitions, an official told The Covered Bond Report.

‘Growth channel’ Gjensidige Bank and covered upped by S&P

Gjensidige Bank has become more strategically important to its parent, Norwegian insurance group Gjensidige, according to Standard & Poor’s, which upgraded the bank, subsidiary Gjensidige Bank Boligkreditt, and the latter’s covered bonds on Friday.

DNB today (Thursday) became the first European issuer to sell a US targeted benchmark covered bond this year, after SEB yesterday placed an inaugural, $1.25bn five year senior unsecured deal as dollars offered high quality Yankee names better terms than euros.
